Nearly all people use prescription drugs almost every day for various types of pain or other medical issues. Unluckily, prescription drugs cause more than 100,000 deaths and cause a staggering 1.5 million cases of people who have had quite serious complications or side effects.

It is these types of adverse drug reactions that cause the most death cases in the United States. Every prescription drug carries some risk, one of the most frequent being memory loss.

3 TYPES OF MEDICATIONS THAT CAUSE MEMORY LOSS

The prescription drugs that lead to most of the cognitive problems or memory loss are being grouped into three categories:

1. THE ‘ANTI’ DRUGS

Every medication that has “anti” at the beginning of the name, such as antispasmodic, antipsychotic, antidepressant, antihypertensive, antihistamine, or antibiotic will have some effect on your acetylcholine level.

Acetylcholine is the major neurotransmitter responsible for memory and learning. If the level of this neurotransmitter reduces, it may lead to blurred vision, delirium, dementia, memory loss, hallucinations, and mental confusion.

2. SLEEPING PILLS

Many people are well aware that sleeping pills can indeed cause the appearance of memory loss.

Ambient is one of the best-known drugs belonging to this group, also known as ‘the amnesia drug’. People who have used it report that they have experienced night terrors, sleep driving, sleep walking and hallucinations.

The person who takes sleeping pills is often in a state similar to being in a coma or being drunk. They also usually do not take the restorative sleep the brain needs in order to maintain and later repair itself.

Instead of taking sleeping pills, you are recommended to use some other way that can help you fall asleep, and there are many of them.

3. STATIN DRUGS

This type of drugs is being used for reducing the levels of cholesterol in the body, but they are considered to be some of the worst medications for your brain. The statin drugs can lead to memory loss and this is something that needs to be seriously written on their label.

Our brain consists of cholesterol up to one fourth. This is why cholesterol is required when it comes to learning, fast thinking, and memory. The statin drugs can really have a negative impact on the health of the brain.

WHAT TO DO?

In case you decide to start using some of the drugs we mentioned, you need to consult your doctor first. However, you can first try using various alternatives, such as natural remedies, change of lifestyle, or regular exercise.

If you still do need to use these medications, try to find some way to somehow protect your brain: try taking supplements, eating a brain-healthy diet, or doing some physical exercise.

Try to provide the best and the healthiest option so that you have a healthy brain and make sure that no drug will harm you in any way.
